About Our Research

1. What is a Drug Utilization Review (DUR)?
- A Drug Utilization Review (DUR) refers to the process of systematically reviewing medication use to ensure that prescriptions are appropriate, effective, and safe. It aims to identify potential issues in drug utilization, such as adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, or overuse.
2. Purpose
- This study is a DUR monitoring study focusing on the adverse drug reactions arising from the co-administration of Western medicine and Korean medicine in the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration pilot project. Specifically, it investigates adverse drug reactions related to the combination of Western medicine and Korean herbal medicine in patients participating in the pilot project.
- The research will explore the current status of Western medicine and Korean herbal medicine co-dministration and analyze the correlation between adverse drug reactions occurring in the collaborative healthcare institutions, particularly those associated with the combination of Western medicine and Korean medicine in patients of the pilot project.
3. Methods
- This study will examine cases of drug adverse reactions reported in 2024 at institutions participating in the fourth stage of the Korean Medicine and Western Medicine Collaboration pilot project. For cases involving the co-administration of Western medicine and Korean herbal medicine, information will be provided to the monitoring center to establish a case database.
- The frequency of patients who experienced drug adverse reactions after the co-administration of Western medicine and Korean herbal medicine (including both covered and non-covered herbal medicines) will be collected and compiled into a database.
- The data collected from the study will be analyzed to present quantitative findings on adverse drug reactions. Additionally, exploratory analysis will be conducted for future development of Clinical Data Management (CDM) models, monitoring, information generation, and management systems related to the co-administration of Western and Korean herbal medicine.
